Client Disclosure and Honesty

By engaging the services of Surrey Canine Corner, the Client agrees that all information provided regarding their animal’s behaviour, history, and any relevant circumstances is truthful, accurate, and complete to the best of their knowledge.

The Client acknowledges that withholding, misrepresenting, or failing to disclose pertinent details, such as previous aggression, medical conditions, or behavioural concerns, may pose a significant risk to the safety of the practitioner, the Client, the animal, and others.

Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, all animal owners and keepers have a legal duty of care to ensure the welfare of their animals and to prevent harm to others. In the case of dogs, the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and related legislation impose additional responsibilities to prevent a dog from being dangerously out of control. Failure to provide full and honest disclosure may result in the immediate termination of services without refund, and Surrey Canine Corner shall not be held liable for any consequences arising from such omissions. The Client accepts full responsibility for any legal repercussions that may arise from undisclosed behavioural issues or other relevant factors.

Session considerations/things to bring:

  • Ensure your dog is wearing a flat collar or harness with ID tag attached containing your contact details and address and bring a suitable lead (see our list of unacceptable equipment below).

  • Make sure your dog is ready for class and has been for a toilet break before hand (and don't forget to pick up after your dog!)

  • Please bring a plentiful supply of tasty treats in a treat pouch!

  • We do undertake some training outside even in winter so please bring suitable waterproofs and footwear.

  • Any other equipment needed (for example props) will be discussed on a lesson by lesson basis :)

Unacceptable equipment and handling:

At Surrey Canine Corner we use force-free, reward based training methods and as such will not condone the following in classes or 1-2-1 sessions:

  • Rough or forceful handling. This includes any form of physical punishment such as lead jerks, smacks, taps or pinning down of your dog.

  • The use of Choke or print collars, electric shock collars and retractable or chain leads for safety reasons

  • We do not allow the use of equipment such as rattle bottles or cans, water pistols or other aversive tools.

Acceptable equipment:

  • Flat collars

  • Training leads

  • Strong canvas or leather leads

  • Training lines

  • Harnesses with front and back rings

  • Toys including balls and soft toys

  • Food rewards

  • Clickers

  • Please do not hesitate to ask for advice or recommendations :)

Children and dogs in sessions:

We welcome children to join 1-2-1 sessions and encourage them to participate and teach them how to interact with dogs in a safe manner. However, there are some important safety considerations to highlight:

  • All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult

  • If your child/children are under the age of 8 years old please ensure you have another adult with you to
supervise the children whilst you train your dog.

  • Children are encouraged to participate in the training with their dog but must be supervised at all times.

Poorly dogs or bitches in season:

  • If your dog has to go to the vet due to sickness or injury please advise your vet if you are booked on for a 1-2-1 session and seek their
advice. If in doubt please contact us.

  • We recommend that bitches in season must stay at home for the duration of the season and we will postpone any 1-2-1 sessions booked. Learning occurs more efficiently when bitches are feeling 100% themselves :)

Disclaimer:

  • By enrolling on our courses or booking 1-2-1 sessions you agree that you have read and understood Surrey Canine Corner's T&Cs, Booking Terms and refund policy.

  • You confirm that that the use of the equipment and premises for the purpose of training activities will be under taken entirely at your own risk.
