1-2-1 Training Terms and Conditions

Please read through our terms and conditions before booking onto one of our 1-2-1 courses or sessions. By placing a booking you are deemed to have read, understood and accepted them. Completion of the booking process and acceptance of our terms and conditions forms your contract with Surrey Canine Corner.

Payment of fees must be made before the training or zoom session takes place by BACS. Transfer to:

Surrey Canine Corner, Mettle Bank, Sort: 23-69-72, Acc: 29289299

1-2-1 sessions are filled on a first come first served basis.

  • Your booking will be secured upon payment. You will be advised via text and/or email when payment is received.

  • All block bookings of five sessions must be used up within 3 months from the day of booking

Cancelling or rescheduling:

Please give us as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule a booked session.

  • Cancellation with less than 1 week's notice - 50% fee payable or you may reschedule

  • Cancellation with less than 48 hours notice - full fee payable or you may reschedule with a 50% additional charge

  • Missed appointments with no notice will not be refunded.

Where one off sessions are cancelled due to inclement weather or instructor illness, the session will be rescheduled where possible or a refund for that session will be made. If a course is booked, no refunds will be offered but postponing is available. Notification of cancellation of a class will be made by text with as much prior notice as possible. Please check your mobile for texts prior to leaving for a session particularly in bad weather.

Class considerations/things to bring:

  • Ensure your dog is wearing a flat collar or harness with ID tag attached containing your contact details and address and bring a suitable lead (see our list of unacceptable equipment below).

  • Make sure your dog is ready for class and has been for a toilet break before hand (and don't forget to pick up after your dog!)

  • Please bring a bed or blanket for your dog to rest on between exercises.

  • Please bring water for your dog if you think they will need it during a session

  • Please bring a plentiful supply of tasty treats in a treat pouch! For Scentwork it is important that treats cannot easily crumble or break down easily, because crumbs can cause distractions. To avoid crumbs and to maintain your dog’s interest in class you might like to consider using cooked chicken, dried liver, cubed (non-crumbly!) cheese or cooked ham.

  • We do undertake some training outside even in winter so please bring suitable waterproofs and footwear.

  • Any other equipment needed (for example props) will be discussed on a lesson by lesson basis :)

Unacceptable equipment and handling:

At Surrey Canine Corner we use force-free, reward based training methods and as such will not condone the following in classes or 1-2-1 sessions:

  • Rough or forceful handling. This includes any form of physical punishment such as lead jerks, smacks, taps or pinning down of your dog.

  • The use of Choke or print collars, electric shock collars and retractable or chain leads for safety reasons

  • We do not allow the use of equipment such as rattle bottles or cans, water pistols or other aversive tools.

Acceptable equipment:

  • Flat collars

  • Training leads

  • Strong canvas or leather leads

  • Training lines

  • Harnesses with front and back rings

  • Toys including balls and soft toys

  • Food rewards

  • Clickers

  • Please do not hesitate to ask for advice or recommendations :)

Children and dogs in sessions:

We welcome children to join 1-2-1 sessions and encourage them to participate and teach them how to interact with dogs in a safe manner. However, there are some important safety considerations to highlight:

  • All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult

  • If your child/children are under the age of 8 years old please ensure you have another adult with you to
supervise the children whilst you train your dog.

  • Children are encouraged to participate in the training with their dog but must be supervised at all times.

Poorly dogs or bitches in season:

  • If your dog has to go to the vet due to sickness or injury please advise your vet if you are booked on for a 1-2-1 session and seek their
advice. If in doubt please contact us.

  • We recommend that bitches in season must stay at home for the duration of the season and we will postpone any 1-2-1 sessions booked. Learning occurs more efficiently when bitches are feeling 100% themselves :)

  • By enrolling on our courses or booking 1-2-1 sessions you agree that you have read and understood Surrey Canine Corner's T&Cs, Booking Terms and refund policy.

  • You confirm that that the use of the equipment and premises for the purpose of training activities will be under taken entirely at your own risk.

  • You confirm that your dog is your sole responsibility and that you are liable if not kept under proper and reasonable control.

  • You confirm that your dog is up to date with their vaccinations and flea and worming treatment before taking part in sessions on public land.

  • You confirm that your vehicle and its belongings are used and parked entirely at your sole risk whilst training

Happy training!
